MAPS 2009 convention

Texans for a season

2008 Convention & Being a Winter Texan

As was the case with the last two MAPS conventions, this one was another On the Hilltop experience.  Both Carrie and I taught classes this year.  We both again made a lot of new friends, and renewed old friendships, which is what the MAPS convention is all about .  We arrived in Carlinville 2 months before convention and worked to ready the campground.  At the end of convention we left and went to Springfield, MO so Carrie could help out at the MAPS headquarters for a couple of days; then we headed south to Brownsville, Texas which will be our winter home for 2008-2009.

Wow, Texas and Texans are great. We are 5 minutes from Mexico and the weather and ocean are great.  I set up shop repairing RV’s, and we fell in love with the area.  A 5-star RV resort caught our eye, and we ended up buying our own RV lot.  Since we were putting down some sort of roots, we decided to adopt a dog, and now Buster is part of TEAM Hughes!

We have taken an interest in the Brownsville Winter Texans Club, and attend their weekly meetings with enthusiasm.  Carrie has started writing articles for their monthly newsletter.

As the 2008-2009 winter season draws to an end, we were honored to find out Teen Challenge has a need for Carrie at their International Headquarters in Springfield, MO.  TC bought an office building, and while Carrie assists in the operations of TC, I will be helping to do some of the renovations.  When completed, I hope to work on a MAPS project in Springfield.  At this writing, we are unsure how long we will be in Missouri, so will continue this writing as things unfold.

If you have read the other pages, you know that we didn’t stay in Springfield, MO as planned, but God opened doors for us to travel.  As of this writing, we have finished summer and are now back in Brownsville, TX for yet another winter season.  We’ll keep  you posted on how the winter progresses.
